NON STANDARD CUSTOMIZED PRODUCTS

Service Overview

Non-standard customized products are developed when catalogue blocks or standard specimens cannot represent the customer's component, inspection system, research objective or project constraint. The design process begins with the actual drawing, material, NDT method and required reference condition.

Scope of Service

1.  Review customer drawings, sketches, samples and functional requirements.

2.  Assess material availability, machining access, fabrication and flaw-introduction feasibility.

3.  Develop a custom technical layout or manufacturing basis.

4.  Integrate reference features, fixtures, scanning surfaces and identification requirements.

5.  Provide prototype, single-piece or small-batch manufacture as agreed.

Available Specimen and Component Configurations

1.  Custom calibration blocks.

2.  Special weld mock-ups.

3.  Tube and piping assemblies.

4.  Scanner demonstration fixtures.

5.  Research specimens and component replicas.

6.  Hybrid mechanical/NDT training products.

Flaws, Reflectors or Conditions Covered

1.  Custom machined reflectors.

2.  Real or artificial flaws where technically feasible.

3.  Corrosion, wall-loss and surface conditions.

4.  Tube defects and holes.

5.  Customer-defined geometric reference features.

Supported NDT Methods

The product, specimen or service can support the following NDT methods where technically applicable. Final suitability is confirmed against the material, geometry, target condition and intended equipment configuration.

1.  UT, PAUT, TOFD, FMC/TFM and AUT.

2.  ECT/ECA, RFT/RFET, NFT, MFL and IRIS.

3.  MT, PT and VT.

4.  Radiographic and other project-specific methods.

5.  Mechanical testing specimen preparation where included.

Typical Applications

1.  Special training and qualification projects.

2.  New equipment development.

3.  Procedure and scanner development.

4.  Research and university projects.

5.  Customer proof-of-concept trials.

Industries Served

1.  Oil and gas, power and petrochemical.

2.  Aerospace, railway and automotive.

3.  Manufacturing, foundry and forging.

4.  Marine, offshore and renewable energy.

5.  Universities and equipment manufacturers.

Applicable Codes, Standards and References

The work may be designed, manufactured or performed with reference to the following, as applicable to the agreed scope:

1.  Customer drawings and project specifications.

2.  Applicable ASME, ASTM, API, AWS, ISO, EN or BS references.

3.  OEM and asset-owner requirements.

4.  Research protocols and approved procedures.

The customer should identify the exact document, edition and revision. Reference to a standard does not by itself constitute certification, accreditation or approval by the issuing body.

Project Workflow

1.  Requirement Review: Review the application, method, component, material, geometry, equipment and intended use.

2.  Technical Definition: Confirm drawings, dimensions, flaw or reflector schedule, tolerances, access and documentation requirements.

3.  Design Approval: Issue the proposed technical basis or layout for customer review where custom manufacture is required.

4.  Manufacturing or Service Execution: Complete fabrication, machining, flaw introduction, marking, inspection or preparation under controlled instructions.

5.  Verification: Check agreed dimensions, identification, reflector locations and relevant NDT responses using suitable methods.

6.  Documentation and Delivery: Compile agreed records, protect the items and arrange domestic or international dispatch.

Documentation and Deliverables

Depending on the agreed scope, the deliverable package may include:

1.  Approved drawing or technical layout, where applicable.

2.  Material and component information, where included.

3.  Flaw, reflector or reference-feature schedule and location map.

4.  Dimensional inspection record.

5.  NDT verification record, where included.

6.  Unique identification, engraving or labelling details.

7.  Photographic record where requested.

8.  Certificate of conformity for the agreed manufacturing or service scope.

9.  Packing, preservation and handling information.

Why Choose NDE Flaw Tech India?

1.  Application-specific engineering rather than one-size-fits-all selection.

2.  Support for conventional and advanced NDT methods where technically applicable.

3.  Controlled machining, flaw introduction, identification and custom fabrication capabilities.

4.  Open, blind and partially blind documentation options for training and assessment programmes.

5.  Traceable drawings, flaw maps, dimensional records and verification information when included in the scope.

6.  Support for domestic and international customers, subject to logistics and applicable restrictions.

Information Required for a Technical and Commercial Proposal

1.  Purpose and functional requirement.

2.  Drawing, sketch, dimensions or sample.

3.  Material grade and condition.

4.  NDT method or mechanical test requirement.

5.  Required flaw, reflector or feature details.

6.  Required tolerances and verification method.

7.  Quantity, delivery schedule and documentation scope.

Technical Limitations and Responsibilities

1.  Custom products require feasibility review before price and delivery can be finalised.

2.  Some requested features may need design modification because of access, strength or verification limitations.

3.  Material availability can affect lead time and achievable properties.

4.  Prototype behaviour may require iterative development.

5.  Final approval for the intended use remains with the customer and governing authority.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you manufacture from only a sketch?

Yes. A sketch can be the starting point, but critical dimensions, material and functional requirements must be confirmed before manufacture.

Can you reverse-engineer a sample?

Dimensional replication can be considered where the sample is available and there are no restrictions on copying the design.

Can one custom product support multiple NDT methods?

Yes, if the material, geometry and reference features are technically compatible with those methods.

Can you make only one prototype?

Yes. Single-piece and small-batch custom manufacturing can be considered.

Can the design be revised after review?

Yes. The technical layout can be updated before manufacturing once customer comments and feasibility constraints are resolved.

Request a Proposal
